Stanford Live, a university organization with a multi-faceted and inclusive approach to creating, presenting, nurturing, and celebrating the performing arts at Stanford. Stanford Live comprises a number of discrete elements, united in common cause:
Stanford Live is the “new Stanford Lively Arts,” ranging in 2013 from Stanford’s distinguished resident ensemble, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, to other longtime Stanford favorites and a wealth of newcomers representing a wide range of genres, including chamber and symphonic music, jazz, and world music.
Stanford Live is artists, building on a legacy of more than four decades of artistic presentation, commissioning of new works, artist residencies, and faculty and student collaborations.
Stanford Live is collaboration with Stanford faculty and students, including the Department of Music’s presentation in 2013 of the monumental Beethoven Project—all of Beethoven’s symphonies and piano concertos in a single season.
Stanford Live is campus and community engagement, including master classes for Stanford students led by accomplished visiting artists, residence hall performances and demonstrations, on-campus lectures led by artists and arts scholars, and student matinee performances for Bay Area school groups.
Stanford Live is partnership with other arts institutions, including the 2013 launch of an exciting, multi-concert series with the Bay Area’s eminent period-instrument ensemble, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra.
