A JMJ é um encontro de jovens de todo o mundo com o Papa, num ambiente festivo, religioso e cultural, que mostra o dinamismo da Igreja e dá testemunho da actualidade da mensagem de Jesus. "É muito mais do que um evento. É um tempo de profunda renovação espiritual, cujos frutos beneficiam a sociedade no seu conjunto" (Bento XVI). Um meio extraordinário de evangelização para reforçar a pastoral juvenil. Ocorre de três em três anos e o último realizou-se no Panamá, em 2019. O Encontro, inicialmente previsto para 2022, foi adiado para Agosto de 2023 devido à Pandemia do Covid-19.
