My work these past few years has been an exploration of domesticity, and a look inside familial and romantic relationships, love and intimacy. Working closely with family members, friends, my partner, my child and myself, my photographs are a close examination of daily rituals and of human interactions within domestic spaces. I view the quotidian as tremendously inspiring, and I find within the familiar, a means of capturing something that moves me emotionally, visually and creatively. I look to compose images that are at once generally familiar to the viewer, but that hold visual strength and pleasure, as well as ambiguous underlying narratives that leave room for interpretation and discussion.
Moreover, I take photographs of people within their own environments such as bedrooms, kitchens, yards, basements, etc -- anywhere that either attracts me visually, or anywhere in which the sitter feels comfortable or feels at home. The environments in which the sitters are photographed and the natural light that enters that space are just as important to me as the sitters. A combination of all three is what I strive for with each and every photograph.
