Lisa Oakes is an artist living in San Antonio, Texas. Following years spent pursuing a graduate degree in psychology, much of Lisa's art is inspired by her academic research into the way visual cues shape our initial impressions of others. An avid information and imagery hoarder, she combines novel and intricate details from a myriad of visual references collected over the years. Using primarily acrylic paint, her portrait paintings often feature charmingly idiosyncratic characters decked in collars with ruffles, ribbons, and bows. Each intriguing child-like character possesses a mysterious quality, an unknown story, about which viewers are free to speculate, based on only whimsical color palettes and quirky details incorporated into their appearance, attire, and environment. The peering eyes of each little one are sure to draw you in with wondrous curiosity.
