LINES in the SAND is a special local cultural event that embraces the whole North Stradbroke Island community – young and old, and the Quandamooka People – as well as visitors during winter school holidays. It is a festival about ecological art that celebrates the island's beautiful yet fragile environment. Artists in residence create site-specific, ephemeral installations in the landscape. Also they hold workshops and inspire children to make art using found materials. There are associated music, film, projection and discussion events that engage people with ideas. It's a much-loved festival that draws on authentic island values and island character.
