LEON INDENBAUM 1890-1981. The Russian sculptor, born in Belarus, arrived at "LA RUCHE" in 1911 and worked at the sculptors Antoine Bourdelle and Aristide Maillol. In his workshop, next to that of Marc Chagall, he welcomes his friends: Michel Kikoine, Pinchus Krémègne, Chaim Soutine, Chana Orloff and Amadéo Modigliani who produced a magnificent portrait. Diego Rivera also made a more modern portrait of his friend Indenbaum. This community of young artists formed the "ECOLE DE PARIS", a movement created from 1905 to 1981: Foujita, Kahlo, Valadon, Pompon, Kikoine, Brancusi, Bugatti, Laurencin, Matisse, Miro, Picasso, Vlamenk, Zadkine, Marevna, Leger, Archipenko, Kremegne, Hebuterne, Bonnard, Kisling, Derain, Epstein, Lipchitz, Utrillo, Chapiro, Van Dongen, Laurens, Lipsi, Csaky … In 1968, the consecration was given to him: he received the Wildenstein Prize awarded by the Institut de France. His 1914 "Musicians and Antelopes" (Jacques Doucet collection) collection earned Christie's New York, the world record for 2004 for a 20th Century Decorative Artwork for $ 4.6M.
