Why I MAKE PHOTOGRAPGS

For me, "Looking" has always held that singular pleasure!

Looking at the effects of light, the primary function of PHOTOGRAPHY

and the inspiration for my photographic practice, continues to capture my enthusiasm and devotion.

The UNIQUE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY presents me with an ever-present challenge to explore and

learn from the world around me and helps me collect and share what i see.

I began my photography journey in 1954 when i was given a 'Brownie' camera for my birthday.

In 1965 I purchased my first 35mm in a pawn shop in Long Beach.

A turning point came for me in 1968 when I took an introductory class taught by Ken Josephson at the

University of Hawaii. I was stationed there during part of my tour of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps.

In 1972 I built my first darkroom and found inspiration in the work of Edward Weston.

In 1981 Cornel Capa selected a couple of my images for a group show in Houston.

That exhibition prompted me to begin to explore formats and cameras other than 35mm.

I ventured into digital photography in 2004 and resumed formal study under Amy Blakemore.

I continue to study and practice the Unique Art of Photography both silver based and digital.
