I'm a retired graphic designer north of Boston, MA, USA.
Since 2006, Flickr has opened up a whole new world in my retirement for something I've always enjoyed--Photography.
Here's my take on "taking pictures".
To me It's all about the image and not so much about what a camera and tons of equipment can do or not do and more what I saw and felt at the time of the shot, then bring that moment or feeling to life. Usually the overall photo is rather flat and with no brilliance to the colors and the light and dark areas have been digitally recorded over or under exposed, so you have to go get the "not like what it was" areas and bring them out and make them right. To me photoshop helps bring, more to life, what the camera didn't see and make it right. But, I try not to oversaturate or oversharpen, but make it look as natural as I can. I'm not a fan of HDR but do like some of the ones that don't go to far.
Ansel Adams must have done a lot of work in the darkroom...
" It is true no one could print my negatives as I did, but they might well get more out of them by electronic means. Image quality is not the product of a machine, but of the person who directs the machine, and there are no limits to imagination and expression." --Ansel Adams
" A photograph is usually looked at, seldom looked into." ~Ansel Adams
"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs." ~Ansel Adams
"Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gismos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn't make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel." -Peter Adams
