Background

Photography through one mean or another has played a big part in my life - one that I've inherited from my fathers interests from taking photos to a more commercial production side of photography of which he once worked.

My first ever job was working for a large scale Photographic Laboratory part time and full time over the summer holidays while at college and at university helping keep the beer money flowing ;-)

This was an amazing experience at what was a truly interesting time for photography as I experienced first hand the before, during and after digital revolution from film to digital photography.

My work varied and skills developed from: - the fun of photo gift production - B&W enlarging - high volume photographic processing - transferring photos to CD - online ordering; being one of the first companies to supply an online printing service - to digital restoration - and a few areas in-between.

Working in these areas meant I have been subjected to hundreds of thousands of photographic images both negative and digital based, professional and non-professional - the comment used to be 'everyday is like traveling the world'.

All of this has allowed me to gain great experience, knowledge and skills around a big chunk of photography and more. Developing an eye for quality, seeing multiple ways of how to compose photos with both successful and unsuccessful results, understanding of colours and postproduction and an important field of understanding digital files and compression. Understanding production environments with processes and how important continuous improvement is (and not just in the world of photography)

Now and the future

I gained all this understanding and yet I was not an avid photographer during this time. It has only been the last few years I've paid more of an interest in being a photographer but only as an amateur and only as a hobby in my free time. Calling on the knowledge gained previously along with the fun of learning new skills I hope over time my photography skills will develop. So if you have advice or any constructive criticism to offer and help me improve then I will be forever grateful.

Current Interests

My current subject fields cover Landscapes, Seascapes, the odd motor sports event and slow exposures - living in the southwest of England it proves a great source of inspiration in all weathers.
