Créé en 1974 par Jean Dieuzaide, le Château d'Eau est la plus ancienne galerie publique exclusivement consacrée à la photographie en France.
Des expositions:
Depuis sa création, le Château d'Eau a présenté plus de 400 expositions. Attachée à montrer la photographie sous toutes ses facettes, la programmation se compose de travaux d'artistes en émergence comme ceux des grands noms qui ont fait l'histoire;
Un centre de documentation:
De l'invention aux esthétiques contemporaines : 10000 ouvrages sur la photographie, une vidéothèque, une diapothèque accessibles à tous;
Une collection permanente:
Un fonds important de tirages originaux qui fait l'objet d'expositions itinérantes mises à disposition des établissements publics, scolaires, universitaires, culturels français et étrangers;
Des éditions:
Près de 300 monographies et affiches éditées, des livres, des co-éditions.
About the gallery
The château d'Eau is an historic institution in favour of photography, the first gallery in France especially devoted to photography. It was founded in 1974 by Jean Dieuzaide.
Temporary exhibitions:
Since 1974, the gallery has presented more than 400 exhibitions, gathering the most famous worldwide photographers but also young artists.
The library:
A very complete library from ancient to contemporary photography, which has now 10000 titles including video tapes, CD-ROM and a lot of photography magazines.
The collection:
A permanent collection of 4700 prints, built during 30 years and traveling exhibitions in France and abroad.
The publications:
300 monographs, posters and books have been published and constitute an important collection.
