And once you've looked and bought a book of mine....LOL
I love travel - as you can, and will see, from my photographs. (do I take 'photographs' or do I take snaps?)
I have been taking 'images' (in deference to my preceding comment LOL) since I was maybe 11/12 years old/ My father was a big 'snapper' and I like the idea that I got the bug from him. I became the family photographer - hence I was never or rarely in the family pictures. but I am and was comfortable about that - though now with kids of my own I know it's important to be in some of them.
Technically I can take a photo - learnt it early (from my afore mentioned father :-) ) - exposure, development of film, enlargement, printing etc). God I was brilliant - every shot was brilliant...
Well that was until I got a negative scanner last week end and started to scan my old stuff - crap. crap in -- crap out! yes they were generally technically OK (exposure, composition - sometimes...). But well crap. But then I can't find ALLl my Negs.
Oh! Did I mention I have just started to take BW film again? - hence the scanner...
Anyway, I digress, I gave up taking images after spending a year or two doing part time wedding photography (remember - technically proficient - so minimum feck ups...)
The fun went completely out of it.
So when Digital came out for cameras I started to get interested - I won a digital camera (believe me it was not much of a competition) a basic 640x380 image (if I remember correctly) that sparked me up. This was easy to do - instant approval - no waiting for development etc.
It had internal memory with no option to insert a memory card.
I quickly outgrew it and set my eye on a Canon Ixus v2 (still have it and it takes fantastic photos, sorry images, even now). 2 mega pixels. Then I decided to 'upgrade to a Canon G6 - another fantastic camera (my Italian 'images' were taken with this camera) Judge for yourselves - when I get to up load them.
I concentrated on taking images of buildings and streets etc with as little interference - like people - as possible.. Oh I cursed when people would walk obliviously into my frame - in the busiest tourist place possible. - even my family would walk into the frame when I stopped to take a picture....
fool that I was...
I then managed to afford a Nikon d80... what a machine - still have it and have yet to be convinced that they have improved on it - any manufacturer inc. Nikon - unless I could afford - see my name attached to winning the lotto! - a single digit Nikon :-) -then I would change it...:-).
Then I realised I was taking the wrong images. I should be shooting the people around me. without their notice if possible...
I have invented street photography! !!!!
Well .... I had DISCOVERED street photography - like thousands before me. I could not believe I had missed the single most important element of a photograph or image - something that is nearly always interesting - people. The trick, I believe is to get them in the right pose/position/etc. - unaware they are being observed -in natural pose.
I still take 'other images' but now believe that my best photographs are my street shots.
I hope you like them.
I will add to this or edit it later as I progress.
I welcome your comments - good or bad (and I mean that - let me know if you think I can improve something ..)
Oh, if any one is interested in actually purchasing a high quality print of any on my work please feel free to contact me for a quote (framed or unframed, etc.)
CHAPTER 2
Hi to all that have shown an interest. Since I went on flicker it has had a number of affects on my photography.
Firstly it has made be re-examine my back catalogue of RAW images to see if there was anything I missed. I am still trying to get time to do this.
Secondly, I tend to take more 'snaps even brought a 'good' camera for my pocket (LUMIX GF2) so wouldn't be caught without my D80....and yes the GF2 with 14-42 fits in my pocket - though the external live view needs to be detached.
Thirdly, Had some prints 'professionally' printed (well I consider it professionally done) by Whitewall.
I SOLD a print during an exhibition Yipppeeeee! the buzz of a stranger paying real money for a print and frame is exhilarating. I want more - not the money - though that would be welcome to finance the further work. but the fact that someone likes my work is very satisfying.
More anon.
So now it's anon...
I've upgraded to the Nikon D7000 lately and I am amazed at the kick start it has given me. The technical advance has been very benificial to me. The focus system is a major step forward and the general performance of the camera is steps ahead of my beloved D80.
