I am an artist, educator, and activist. I have a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Cleveland Institute of Art in Sculpture and a minor in Communication Design. In addition I have an equivalent to a minor in Political Science from Case Western. Besides photography, I also create interactive installations that create safe spaces for people to reflect on and communicate with others about topics that may be uncomfortable including conflict, the environment and public policy. I approach my art and teaching in the same way. It is never completely in my control. There is always the aspect of the student, viewer, the subject or the participant having freewill which impacts the outcome of the project. I respect the decisions that others make as it allows me gain insight on the role I am called to play in my society.
I am passionate about travel and being as embedded into the communities that I visit as possible. Gaining an understanding of how people in other places and in other life situations connect with each other, consume and express themselves, we can see that we are all very different, but share a foundation of the same needs, desires and goals. My photography is a bridge that connects the viewer to the people and places that I have captured. My hope is that when you see these images you discover beauty in the unfamiliar, cultivate empathy for those around and they spark your creativity leading to a deeper understanding on what it is to be human.
