ABOUT LARRY STEEN

Larry Steen is an artist who is compelled to capture images for the same reasons he is passionate about playing and writing music. In both areas, Steen revels in the moment where balance, harmony and other aesthetic elements “click” into place. His shooting and editing combine the same instinctive, creative immediacy and technical prowess we see in his jazz improvisations and compositions. Often present are abstract, Ukiyo-e, infrared film, lith-print and silkscreen influences displayed in his multifaceted work. The artist seeks a spiritual connection with his viewers in striving for a unique point of view that is alluring and uplifting.

Steenʼs exhibits feature large-scale prints from extensive international travels through Southeast Asia, India, East Africa, etc. Photographic works include cover photography for Hollywood Weekly magazine, print for books published by Crown and Palgrave McMillan (cover photo), numerous album covers, live performances, as well as promotional and head shots. His most recent pieces bring an unconventional perspective to the iconic sites and expansive landscapes of the desert in and around Palm Springs, CA.
