While designing our garden in N. Calif. I did a lot of research on Flicker into Japanese garden paths, fences, etc. I thought I would return the favor: here (mostly) are photos of a documentary sort I took while in Japan. Enjoy.

For a fine overview and history of individual Japanese gardens, with photos, I highly recommend the Bowdoin College website.

If you go to Kyoto to see the gardens, take the best guide: 'A Guide to the Gardens of Kyoto' by Marc Treib and Ron Herman (Kodansha). In the US get the book 'Japanese Style Gardens of the Pacific West Coast' by Kendall Brown (Rizzoli).

I'm a sculptor. You can find many of my artworks on my website , and some recent short videos on YouTube. More personal pics are on Facebook.
