I do quantum physics research as a PhD student at the Australian National University in Canberra. Very simply, my research involves shining lasers at diamonds to make them glow; but the details are esoteric. What motivates and excites me is the thrill of discovery – seeing things that nobody has ever seen before.

In my spare time, I like going on similar journeys of discovery with my camera. Although fundamental research may be more likely to lead to nifty new technologies, photography is also about seeing nature in new ways. The thrill is similar.
