Hello, and welcome to my photo collection. If you've gone through some of my photos, you've probably already realized I'm primarily a landscape photographer. I created this site to share my photos, to see other people's commentaries and criticisms, and most of all to learn. I like the ideas behind the Flickr community and I get a lot out of seeing other people's creativity with photography. This is really a terrific site.
I have a fascination with small cameras, and you'll notice that the majority of photos on my photostream were taken with them. It''s not that I'm opposed to large cameras, it's just a personal preference not to be weighed down by equipment.
I have a fundamental belief that anyone can take very good photographs with almost any piece of equipment. If you gave Henri Cartier-Bresson your average point-and-shoot, would his photographs be that much less compelling? Most great photographs come from being able to express what you want to express. My only advice to someone who picks up a new camera is to get to know your camera, experiment, push it to the limits, and be innovative to get the image you want. The cardinal rule of chess applies here: think!
I encourage you to leave comments of any kind (positive, negative, constructive). I am constantly learning. Hearing your point of view may teach me a new way of looking at things and help me "see" a different image next time.
A word about comments, I prefer not to receive "awards", invitations, or links to your most recent photos (unless there's a correlation to the image). It just takes away from the Flickr experience of connection and dialog. Don't fall into the Flickr phenomenon of only leaving pleasant comments, you can say what you want here, and I'm always open to criticism.
Come back, come often, leave some thoughts behind.

Onwatersedge, or Charles. I rarely write testimonials for people on flickr, but a few members merit such attention. Charles is most certainly one. Before you visit his photostream, do read his profile text - an honest self-penned appraisal of his photographic beliefs - it says a lot about him. I would just like to add this (as Charles is too humble!) I would like to think of photography as an art. Charles considers himself primarily a landcsape photographer. That's maybe so. I consider him an artist. Not because he dabbles into photoshop (he takes great pains to admit to us he doesn't, and won't), but because his vision, and skill with his equipment show a true artist, with vision that's second to none I think. (At least on flickr with its millions of members!) Two recent photographs Charles has taken have prompted me to pen this testimonial - both taken in November 2009. One is called "Spirits between the trees" and the other "Parting ways". I urge you to view these images, and I hope you get as hopelessly lost in them as I did - Charles is bordering on a becoming a photographic genius these days! On his profile he suggests he is "always learning". I guess we all are. But Charles has quite clearly either learned an awful lot, or his natural flair is unmatched. Friend - your photographs are simply a joy to look at. Your helpful advice and honest, constructive criticism - (remember my "sharpened jays"!) are a pleasure. Thank you for inspiring me - and please, please keep up the incredible flow of art through your lens. TBR.
