Welcome. I am Kyle.
A life-long resident of beautiful Parrsboro, Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada, and aside from a 4 year adventure to Halifax in the 80’s where I attended Dalhousie University (studied Kinesiology and Business Information Systems – odd combination I know), we remain in this place that we love; it is home! Married to my high school sweetheart, Lynne (together more that 40 years now), we have raised our three children here and now share our time between our family home right in Parrsboro, and our ‘beach house’ built in nearby Diligent River overlooking the majestic Bay of Fundy and the daily tidal flows it is most famous.
My journey into formal photography was quite by accident. I have always taken an interest in capturing life’s best moments, be it on traditional film cameras (trial and error experimentation being cost prohibitive when raising a young family), on to early digital cameras (minimal features and low quality images but still, intriguing to capture and seeing instant results), then video recorders (first bulky VHS, graduating to newer and lighter VHS-C), simultaneously learning better digital cameras, creating with compact sports cameras (various GoPro editions and so many cycling images), then graduating from a Nikon crop-sensor DSLR to finally delving into the full frame realm (now shoot Canon). Always interested more in the technology side of things, as I have grown older (I am a new Grampy now), I am much more self-assured and enthusiastic to explore my more creative side in capturing life’s moments, simply by being more mindful and intentional in the images I capture.
Professionally, I have been a funeral director assisting families from the area for more than 35 years. As well, a business administrator with my in-laws large wild blueberry farm. If my life experiences have taught me one thing, I have learned that our time here is so precious, and every moment should be cherished and appreciated deeply. Photography, particularly seascape and landscape photography, has become the perfect medium to reinforce these sentiments. Time spent in nature walking beaches and visiting those special locations that instill a sense of awe is by far the best solace to appreciating the more important things in our lives. Being able to share these experiences via photography is deeply gratifying.
My inspiration comes primarily from my family and their unwavering support. For the pity-‘likes’ knowing an image might be substandard to my liking, the many encouraging remarks (constructive criticism is most welcome), this is what drives my obsession to do more, and do it better. Further, I draw encouragement and am inspired by the ardent support of my local community (always so kind), as well as several in the Atlantic Canadian photographic community, two of which being Len Wagg and Dave Brosha, both individuals who I admire not only for their collections of amazing work, but their willingness to share their vast experiences with encouragement to feel confident with my own creative expression.
Enough about me. Simply put, I truly appreciate your time spent on my website and I sincerely hope you enjoy my ever-growing collection of seascape and landscape images. I am a work in progress, continuously learning and striving to create more beautiful images with every click of the shutter. This is my work…and these images are a piece of me.
