What would the world be, once bereft

Of wet and of wilderness? Let them be left,

O let them be left, wilderness and wet;

Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet.

Beside the Point

The sky has never won a prize.

The clouds have no careers.

The rainbow doesn't say my work,

thank goodness.

The rock in the creek's not so productive.

The mud on the bank's not too pragmatic.

There's nothing useful in the noise

the wind makes in the leaves.

Buck up now, my fellow superfluity,

and let's both be of that worthless ilk,

self-indulgent as shooting stars,

self-absorbed as sunsets.

Who cares if we're inconsequential?

At least we can revel, two good-for-nothings,

in our irrelevance; at least come and make

no difference with me.

— Stephen Cushman, from The Virginia Quarterly Review: Spring 2006.

kvdl's photostream is one of my favourites on Flickr. Whether it's a landscape, a still life, a family member or good old mother nature, kvdl's images are very creative and connect us to his world in an immediate way.

Its a perfect combination; it draws me to the image, making me wish I could pass into it and experience the moment wholly. Still, doing so vicariously is no small thing. Its an enviable record of an enviable mom… Read more

Well, only silence for about 30 seconds, and then I always have to call my family around to look at the photos with me. :) kvdl has one of my most favorite photostreams, he inspires me with every new image taken from around the lower mainland. It just goes to show you can find God's beauty in creation everywhere you go! Keep up the good work kvdl, you will go far! ;)
