Photography has been a constant presence in my life, in one form or another. My earliest memories are of my dad down in the basement of our house, coaxing images from what appeared to be water. Black and white prints were developed in the darkroom he set up. The slide film was sent out via mail and returned days later. I took a photography class in high school. Otherwise, I concentrated on mechanical drafting and work.

Picked up my first DSLR in 2004, a Canon 10D. That gave way to Canon 7D, 5D Mk IV, & R5. Complemented with a Sony A6000 and a Holga 120. I also have a collection of film cameras in various states of working condition. My collection ranges from non-functioning early Kodak "Brownie" box cameras to a working Hasselblad 500CM from spare parts. Additionally, an iPhone has been by my side since June 2007.

I've taken several photo excursions with WashingtonPhotoSafari.com by E. David Luria. After all, I had a DSLR and had to learn how to use the camera. I owe David a lot for getting me to see things differently and improving my technique. It gave me an excuse to run around DC.

The Strobist group here on Flickr influenced me to join and learn more about light. I'm intrigued by the techniques of David Hobby and others on the application of light when moved off the camera.

So, I'm what you call a serious amateur. I treat this as a hobby. A costly pursuit, but I get a lot of enjoyment and relaxation out of it. It could be worse - some spend tons of money on woodworking. You get to keep the memories with less mess.

Interested in photographing sports, aerospace/air shows, architecture/real estate, landscapes, and night scenes.
