My photography ...

... aims to capture the unique feeling, essence or spirit of a subject, scene or place. I try to show the beauty or the interest (and, sometimes, the absurdity) that is all around us, yet often goes unnoticed. Have I succeeded? That is not for me to judge.

My main reason for being on Flickr was to share the photo-record I was making of Utrecht and its surroundings in the Netherlands while I lived there. I have now left that lovely city and moved to a village near Delfzijl in the green and pleasant countryside close to the Groningen coast and am documenting a very different kind of Holland. You may ask, of many of my images, "Why photograph THAT?". Well, some day (when I am long gone) these images will be valuable, not in terms of money, or as art, but as historical records, because many are of things that no-one else thinks worth recording.
