STATEMENT

My art strives for balance through ostensible imbalance. I'm preoccupied with the increasingly blurry distinction between the organic and the artificial. In my illustrations, this distinction is blatantly explored with fibrous and highly-detailed conglomerations of abstract organic matter typically set in the midst of precise, straight-edged ornamentation. In my collage and video work, this duality is dealt with by analyzing the consequences and implications of a fully digitized human culture. The inevitable merging of man and machine apparently leaves little room for spiritual development and yet religion and art continue to be adhered to and created in spite of this destiny. My videos and collages explore a tribal, digital dark age where technology has counter-intuitively reinforced a spiritual appetite. The music and costumes in my band, COMPUTER JESUS REFRIGERATOR, elaborate on this concept further, providing a more tangible representation of this possible scenario. Ultimately, I hope to achieve in my work a bristling, rabid multimedia synthesis that, in reflecting a possible dystopian future, somehow diverts humanity from its present course.
