Katy Olmsted currently lives in Broomfield, CO. She received BFA degree in Sculpture from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has shown work in Florida, Georgia, Colorado and Belfast, Ireland.
She spent the past ten years working in Georgia as a Decorative Artist and Art Consultant. As a Decorative Artist, she mostly worked on liturgical art and design, but occasionally, she had the opportunity to work on or for theaters, schools, filming crews, organizations, companies and private residents. As an Art Consultant, she mostly worked on public art consultation creating budgets, doing research, and coming up with possible public art ideas.
She has served on the board for two non-profit organizations: Friends of Tattnall Square Park and Hayiya Dance Theatre. She was also a Knight Neighborhood Challenge Grant Public Art Committee Member for the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. She has helped curate an eco-art show and she assisted an Atlanta-base artist fabricate his public art. She has also had the opportunity to teach several art workshops as well as two summer art camps.
Entropy plays an important role in her sculptures and installations which are made from materials that change over time. She also enjoys using non-traditional materials and considers herself to be a "kitchen artist", using available materials from the home and from nature. She also enjoys making miniature art and working with both digital and print media. She is influenced by the Fluxus and Feminist Art movements and the work of Kiki Smith, Eva Hess, Jeanne Quinn, The Brothers Quay, Tim Hawkinson, and Garrison Roots.
She is also a certified Yoga Instructor with over 300 hours of teacher training and she has had the opportunity to teach yoga to both adults and "at-risk" children.
