Found Object Art, Jewelry & Creatively Restored Boxes
Karen Malcolm is an emerging mixed media artist creating original constructions, collages and works on canvas. Available online via Etsy and at New England art and craft shows; Malcolm’s work has a growing regional following. Produced from found objects and other recycled and natural materials, Malcolm's eco-friendly artwork is influenced by her seaside New England roots and a slightly irreverent fascination with all things old. Her whimsical, sometimes edgy work has been called beautiful, thought-provoking distillations of contemporary female life explored through the altering of vintage and antique objects.
Malcolm’s New England practicality means that her work extends to up-cycling, recycling and creatively restoring worn, discarded and vintage boxes into functional art. She sands, repairs, hand paints, collages and embellishes her works with found objects including vintage buttons, letterpress block letters, pie tins, advertising rulers and other found objects.
Malcolm’s studio and workshop are in her Providence, RI basement, but her finish work is all done at her dining room
