I have had a camera of my own, in one form or other, since the age of nine. I am still learning how to take better pictures several decades later. I got more interested in photography in 1980 when my father gave me his old Agfa 35 mm camera, and soon after I learned how to do my own Black and White developing and printing. When I got a full-time job in the mid-1980s, I favoured a mixture of colour 35 mm slide and print film as I no longer had the facilities to do my own B & W processing. In 2005 I got my first digital camera, and bought an EOS APS-C DSLR in 2016. The last film I exposed was in 2008. The acquisition of a flatbed photo scanner has since opened up the possibility of being able to digitise and share both mine and my late father’s film collections.

I regret that I didn't take more photos of the everyday when I was younger as so much has changed, but film and processing were a luxury then! Digital imaging has revolutionised consumer photography, but I worry about long term archival... (Will the treasured memories of a generation be lost?)
