Thoughts
Thanks for taking a look. I hope you like something that you see. Constructive critiques are very welcome.
My name is Cole and I currently live in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. I work as, essentially, the entire IT department for a small non-profit organization. It keeps me busy.
I sort of fall into things as I go through life--my father once said something similar, so it must be a family thing. My interests sway and float in the breeze, but there are some things that have stuck, and that's fortunate; I don't want my epithet to be "jack of all trades, master of none."
I've been fascinated by photography ever since I was eight and holding my first cheap 35mm camera. Not only is it a means of recording the moment, or at least the sheerly visual aspects of it, but it's a way of communicating with people; in a single image you can convey happiness, sadness, heart-rending loneliness, exultation, triumph--all of these things are possible. Photography can change the world, and it can touch people--how many of us remember "Afghan Girl", Sharbat Gula, on a 1985 cover of National Geographic? I would bet that if you don't already associate an image with that description, if I showed you a cropped image of just her eyes you would probably immediately recognize it.
All that being said, I'm trying to create a recording of my own little world, and am sharing that. I am by no means a professional (that much is evident), and at best I'd call myself a "clever amateur", but as I've found with my other art, illustration, persistence and patience are the keys.
