Kindling and Tinder designs luxe sweaters and accessories for men. We are inspired by loathsome, attenuated downtown gentlemen and vintage patterns.
We were featured in the Winter 2007/8 issue of Nylon Guys and the Hook and Hughes Scarf appeared in the 2008 Stitch N Bitch Page-a-Day Calendar.
Our projects and fearless models were photographed by Aubrey Edwards. Except the Hook and Hughes Scarf, which was photographed (badly) by Michaela in her old Austin apartment under a tight deadline. Current WIP photos are by us. Yes, we’re planning a book.
Shannon is a handwork queen. She works in international education and has been knitting against the rules since 2005.
Michaela’s grandmother Lucille taught her how to knit on a grubby piece of pink yarn when she was 6 years old, but she didn’t pick up the needles again in a serious way until 1999. She’s a book editor by day and an irreverent music critic and knitwear designer by night.
We also have a knitting machine (Brother KH-40, plus ribber). His name is Conrad, but we’re still trying to figure out how he works.
Yes, we're on Ravelry.
We're better known for doing this.
