KidsOut is a children’s charity who were founded in 1999 to give disadvantaged children and young people fun, positive experiences that contribute to their development, well-being and outlook for a happier future. Every year, KidsOut help over 35,000 children who may have escaped domestic violence, have a life-limiting illness, have special educational needs or have become young carers.
Our Services
KidsOut aim to not only provide these children with positive experiences, but also to provide services that are integrated and sustainable. KidsOut currently provide 5 main services, these are:
Annual Day Out - In partnership with The Rotary Club of Great Britain KidsOut take in excess of 30,000 children on a day out. This is always organised for the second Wednesday in June and KidsOut is proud to say that it is the largest event of its kind in the UK. The activity may be as simple as visiting the Zoo or a first visit to the seaside – however it is always the experience of a lifetime!
Toy Box Scheme – Over 750,000 children witness domestic violence every year. KidsOut works in conjunction with 197 Women's Aid Refuges to provide a box of brand new toys to children who have had to flee their homes. KidsOut have sent over 2200 toy boxes so far.
Multimedia Outreach - Over 3,000,000 young people in the UK live in rural areas, many of whom are affected by poverty and poor public transport. The KidsOut Multimedia Outreach vans reach out to these young people giving them activities to participate in. The Multimedia Outreach vans encourage interaction with peers in a positive context which in turn contributes to the children’s social development.
Phyzzpod™ - This is a cost-effective sensory environment and play area. Phyzzpod brings sensory play into the mainstream education learning environment so that more young people can benefit. Installed within schools, children’s groups and community centres, Phyzzpods help develop children’s language and comprehension.
World Stories - 1 in 8 children in the UK speak English as their second language. KidsOut is creating an online collection of stories in the 20 most commonly spoken languages and translating them into English. World Stories helps children to develop their English, which is the language of teaching, as well as their understanding of other nationalities. World Stories provides an online resource which can be accessed by children, parents and teachers and utilised in both a home and school environment. World Stories allows for all nationalities to appreciate and understand the different cultural backgrounds that can be found in schools throughout the UK.
