Kent Hehr is the first-term MLA for Calgary-Buffalo. As a well-known member of the community, he was named one of the 20 most compelling Calgarians to watch in 2008 by the Calgary Herald, one of the "Top 40 Under 40" by Calgary Inc. Magazine in 2006, and the "Graduate of the Decade" by the University of Calgary Alumni Association in 2005.
Kent was born on December 16, 1969 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary. After graduating from Sir Winston Churchill High School in 1987, Kent graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Canadian Studies in 1997 and received his LLB from the University of Calgary in 2000.
Before entering politics, Kent was a lawyer at Fraser Milner Casgrain, a national law firm. He built his reputation as a community leader through public service with a wide variety of organizations, including the Downtown West Community Association, the United Way of Calgary, the Canadian Paraplegic Association and the city of Calgary's Advisory Committee on Accessibility.
Before becoming a quadriplegic in a random act of violence at the age of 22, Kent played Junior Hockey and was a part of the Alberta Junior Hockey League Champion Calgary Canucks in the 1989-1990 season. Kent also played for the Mount Royal Cougars during the 1990-91 season.
Kent's parents Dick and Judy are both retired Calgary Board of Education teachers and his sister Kristie is also a lawyer. Kent has three nephews, Marshall, Jackson and Parker.
