I've always been interested in aircraft, particularly airliners, and worked in the airline industry for 43 years until I retired in 2005. I used to do the 'number crunching' like most spotters but gave it up years ago (when you work with them, you're usually too busy to write anything down). I've always concentrated on airliner photography and have photo's going back to the early 1960's.

I had built up over 8,500 photos on Fotopic until they sadly went bust early in 2011. Fortunately, I have everything backed up and I've slowly rebuilt the collection here on flickr..

I had a rubbish camera (Kodak Retinette 1B) taking slides until the early 1980's when I bought my first SLR, so most of the early stuff isn't top quality. Over the years the slides and negatives were stored in cold damp lofts and garages and of the 3,000 slides that I had, I threw around 2,000 away. The rest have been cleaned up and are online.

I was finally dragged 'kicking and screaming' into the 21st century in November 2004 when I bought my first digital camera. I currently have a Canon 40D (now retired), a Canon 60D and a Canon 77D.

I decided to list the photos in sets, mainly as aircraft by type (because that's the way I have them archived!) as well as my more recent visits to different places. I've done all the older aircraft which are no longer around and, as of the end of June 2017, I'd completed the rest. There are now almost 18,000 photos online (apart from half an album of prints that I've misplaced somewhere, containing prints from late September to the end of October 2004). When I started doing this I was still on dial-up and the files had to be very small. Many are quite badly pixilated and from now on I'll be re-scanning some older negatives and adding 'latest' photo's as they happen!

'Aircraft by type' albums are at the top of the list, so keep moving down the 'Albums' page for the different destinations/years. All the Liverpool and Manchester sets by year are now complete and I'm gradually working on my overseas visit sets as and when time permits.

In Dec-14 I finally got my slide scanner software sorted out and have now replaced the early 1960's photo's (if I've replaced it, it says so in the remarks)
