Kunal graduated in Fashion Design from the first generation fashion school in the country - National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gandhinagar, and holds a Masters in Fashion & Textiles from Pearl Academy validated by Nottingham Trent University, UK. As an early millennial design-student, he had the opportunity to learn from and interact with masters of Art, Design, Craft, Architecture & Textiles, in the knowledge-rich city of Ahmedabad and training from many legendary academics of NID, CEPT University, IIM Ahmedabad, MSU Vadodara & MICA.

 

For over 17 years, he has worked professionally in the diverse areas of apparel / textile design, visual merchandising & events, graphic & communication design and subsequently aesthetic curating & management for a variety of creative industries. For more than 11 years now, he dedicated his time to Design Education nurturing young talents and simultaneously pursuing a personal practice in transcendent areas of image making & experiential design. He has worked at various hierarchy levels, from an absolute hands-on execution of design projects up-to contributing towards core strategic planning & academic management leadership.

 

As a scholar/researcher, his work contributes to commenting on the consumption of ‘industrial fashion & image’ in context to iconography and ethnographic studies of 'fashion' as a classic ‘object of human desire’.

 

In the past decade within various levels of engagement with design academia, his specialised areas of teaching have been - design process & development; fashion research, design writing & analysis; drawing, illustration & digital design; portfolio design; craft, culture & aesthetics appreciation.

 

He often serves as a guest faculty, external-examiner & jury member for fashion schools at NIFT, Manipal University, Karnavati University, KIIT University, Amity University, Delhi Public School, IIS University and other design schools.
