Kathryn claims to be very new to this photography thing. That means she has never been up ‘till dawn printing in a smelly darkroom, hasn’t sat in the stuffy camera club back room listening to the stuffy president telling us why someone with the talent and vision of a traffic camera is being awarded the print of the month accolade again. Poor Kathryn! So is her photography “new” and “shocking” or “challenging” to view? Well – no, it isn’t. There’s a lot of tradition in Kathryn’s work – she has obviously absorbed a lot of photographic culture over the years, even if it has taken her until very recently to discover that she has a talent herself when she picks up a camera. I’ll be watching her photostream with interest over the next few months and years as her own style develops.
