Welcome to my Flickr pages!!
I have always been fascinated by Children’s book illustrations. They captured my imagination as a child and continue to be a constant source of inspiration in my every day life.
I obtained a BA degree in Illustration and Printmaking from the University of Dundee and completed a series of courses in contemporary book illustration with author/illustrator Claire Alexander. I have also taken a couple of courses in puppetry and puppet making at the Little Angel Theatre in Islington.
The characters I draw are mostly children and anthropomorphic animals influenced by the naive surrealism of old children’s book illustrations and early Disney cartoons.
A few of my influences are Mary Blair, Maurice Sendak and Benjamin Rabier. My favourite young illustrators include Aya Kakeda, Julianna Swaney, Amy Adele, Sophie Blackall (and many more).
I love animals, fairy tales, puppets and anthropomorphism, Silly Symphonies, automatons, the uncanny, peanut butter, Christmas, forests and exploring with a dog.
My favourite animals are horses, wolves, foxes, dogs (all canines) and cats. The first animal I ever saw was a highland cow; Santa’s donkey bit me when I was a toddler. I play the piano, and dedicated a Chopin song to our dog when she died.
