Gateshead Evangelical Church is celebrating its 100th anniversary after being established as Vine Street Mission in 1916 where Sister Winifred Laver met the needs of the poverty stricken community of Gateshead through both, physical and spiritual help. As time went on, the mission grew tremendously and eventually moved to a new plot of land where Gateshead council constructed the building that the church now meets in to reach the local community.
The congregation consists of people of all ages, from various different countries and walks of life who are all brought together under the common ground that is Christ Jesus, their Lord and Saviour.
Their testimonies speak of how they became Christians and the transformative impact this has had on them individually. They are a spiritual family who care deeply for one another and strive to live out the many ‘one another’ passages mentioned throughout the Bible.
