Abstraction is my Distraction. Reality is not for real.

Collages, Light, Blurred Horizons & Edges, Detail, Urban Quirkiness.

I use photos, drawings, paintings and designs of my own to create the images on these pages.

To begin with: I was attracted to photography as a creative act when contemplating the stark contrasts between light and dark in the south of France. I took many photos then. I discovered Picasa, a part of the Google suite---and learned how to make montages and compositions of two or several photos; to change colour, contrast, light etc. Picasa is quite simple to use compared to Photoshop and other professional aids, though has its limitations.

Fragments of journeys: I love exploring, following my instinct and feelings. I do not always know what I am creating when I start. Sometimes, I do. But very often my works are the outcome of voyages of discovery and learning.

My most satisfying and meaningful experiences? A project with a colleague, Chris Brook, who is a poet. It was based on the Cartoneros theme: making cardboard-bound books, which originated in Buenos Aires. The covers were made of recycled cardboard; the design and painting were done in several workshops involving students and colleagues.

Chris' poems, printed on my abstract images made up the content. We were inspired and guided by an Argentinian colleague, Estela Belloni, hence the Cartoneros theme. Our works were exhibited at the 2014 Paris book fair on the Argentinian stand.

I have also used the same approach in language courses I give on a voluntary basis to refugees here in France. The students wrote poems and short stories in English with help and encouragement from teachers. They designed, painted and bound the covers in the class.
