I am a portraiture, photojournalism, and fine art photographer, specializing in artistic portraiture. I thrive off connecting with my subjects and creating images that they will cherish for a lifetime.

I have just returned from an amazing adventure- my family was relocated to the Netherlands for a year -

read about our adventures on my blog.

Coming from generations of artists, both musical and visual, I inherited my artistic eye primarily from my father (an amateur photographer) and my grandmothers (one a painter, the other a serious doodler). I began my love of photography as a teenager after receiving a 35mm camera and 4 rolls of black and white film for Christmas, and experienced a renewal of this passion with the birth of my daughter in 2003.

I was raised in the Austin area, and I've lived in Texas for almost 30 years. (I was legally naturalized as a Texan in 2001 by a judge in Burnet, Texas, just to be safe.) I live in Houston with my supporting and understanding husband, ridiculously fun, smart and photogenic daughter, my Dutch bicycle, and our vicious Lhasa Apso mix, Andy.

I use Canon digital gear, Mamiya TLR and Polaroid medium format film equipment, and prefer natural light in my image creation (though I am starting to become addicted to strobes).

I am a Flickr junkie- I could (and now thanks to Apple TV, I DO) spend hours hopping from one photo stream to the next, soaking in everyone's unique perspective and take on their world.

One night, in the middle of a dark bar in midtown, karibethn gave me some simple instructions that transformed the way I take photos with my 50mm lens. I cannot thank her enough. I was a total stranger to her and the lens the night we met. Her willingness to help me instantly take better photos was such a beautiful gesture, I feel the advice she gave me was a humanitarian effort of saintly proportions. She is the Mother Theresa of Photography.
