As a lifelong Kansan, I have always appreciated the landscape and topography of this lovely state that I call home. I love exploring, especially my home state and neighboring state Colorado, which I visit at least once yearly to see family.
As for photography, I have been interested in it for many years, but within the past several years I rediscovered my passion. Although I enjoyed film photography, I much prefer the instant satisfaction I have found with the digital form.
I appreciate the form and function of buildings and especially love all the details. I have always been a history buff, which is why I take photographs of historic buildings. You may have noticed that I take a lot of photos of doors, windows and other parts of buildings; my fascination with, and dedication to, form and function come from my daily work and my own personal history.
My favorite types of buildings to photograph are grain elevators, silos and barns, preferably of the stone variety. The form, function and beauty of grain elevators inspire me. The shape and form can be so simple, but the amount of details and the way shadows fall on them excites me. I also enjoy photographing nature and landscapes.
I like to include shadows and reflections in some of my photos. Some say this is bad. I like to push the envelope with composition. You could say I like to break the rules. Some of my buildings are crooked according to the standard rules of composition. But that is okay in my opinion. A photograph should reflect what one sees, not what one thinks ought to be seen.
Since posting my first photo to Flickr, I have learned a tremendous amount from other members and want to thank you for your feedback, comments, suggestions, etc.
I am sharing my photos on this site and trust that no one will use them for any purpose without my special permission.
If you mark a photo of mine as a favorite, please take the time to post a comment.
