Kaingud Arts and Crafts
"KAINGUD" (ka-eeng-ud) a Hiligaynon word meaning companion, the partners/companions, Nuno and Pagasa, or as how they call themselves ..The Kainguds.
Began in 2004, after venturing around Visayas and Luzon Region of the Philippines. Being both craftsmen, artisans and musicians, they used to travel as wanderers with exhibitors going in town fiestas in caravans joining trade fair exhibits. There while playing their music they sell their handmade crafts. Along the way, meeting other like-minded artist and musicians, which have been a memorable experience that taught them in many things about their chosen life.
After more than two years of traveling around, they finally decided to focused in their crafts and start a small business and named it.. "Kaingud Arts and Crafts”.
-Creations-
The Kaingud's are best known for making one-of-a-kind designs, specializing in odd and unique asymmetrical styles. Pagasa and Nuno shares the interest of contemporary ethnic motif and tribal bohemian styles. Pagasa who’s drawn more to copper jewelries aside from macramé and mixed media, started making styles incorporating it with assorted materials especially stones and pearls, while Nuno evolves in creating assorted ethnic motif accessories, making doodles etched in glass, weaving rattan, modifying common wood crafts, making recycled decors up to several kinds of functional arts.
Among our products are handmade jewelries and accessories, decors, handicrafts and baskets, mirrors, picture frames, hangings, chimes, musical instruments and many others.
-Materials-
The materials plays an important role in our products, using natural materials such as drift woods, coconut shell, bamboo, rattan, seeds, shells, clay, other handmade beads, animal bones or horn beads, stone crystals and copper are some of a few materials that are available objects that comes from nature. Natural materials specially contains elements, (Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Ether) which is believed since the ancient times gives energies that promotes love, protection, peace of mind, calms and relax, as well as attract good luck and good health.
-Recycled Functional Arts-
One creation which is very special, are pieces of junk turned into decors and other functional arts. Made from electronic waste and collected objects out from trash, old or used items from friends and some are bought from the thrift shops.
The drift woods and animal bones are ethically collected from trekking in the jungles or are those that were washed out from shores or rivers.
And for that, we are proud to say.. We Recycle!
By using this kinds of materials we are able to make use of old stuffs that are supposed to be thrown away and will only become piled up trash. In this way we are happy and proud that we are able to help sustain a clean environment in our own little way..
-Grateful and Thankful-
After all the years, we continue to learn more from our experiences, new or old, we all began from nothing and we are always humbled by it. Our adventures, our journeys, our struggles of being gypsies taught us to survive, yet the complexities of being in the mode of art has brought us deeper and dedicated with our crafts.
We are truly grateful for all the appreciation and support that you have continually given us, it is what gives us more inspiration and purpose in creating and making more of our unique pieces.
We believe in nature, in the connection of energies, in having a motivated mind, attitudes and beliefs, factors of positive energies and that the creative imagination of the maker gives an individual character to every piece of work.
To all and whom ever is reading this now…
