Gallery Overview

My photostream covers a loose mix of outdoor and observational photography. It includes nature and wildlife images, ranging from birds, animals and woodland details to changing light across forest and trail landscapes; landscape and environmental scenes shaped by moving through terrain rather than working from fixed viewpoints; and a growing interest in macro and close-detail work, particularly where texture and small-scale pattern come into view. From time to time I also explore street and urban scenes, mainly as straightforward observation rather than formal street work. Most images are unplanned and taken as situations present themselves, rather than being set up in advance.

Notes on Approach

I tend to photograph while out riding or walking rather than heading out with a specific photographic agenda. What catches my attention is usually light, small visual oddities, or the way ordinary scenes briefly organise themselves into something worth noticing.

I don’t stage or manipulate scenes. If something works, it’s generally because the moment happened to line up rather than through much design on my part. A lot doesn’t work, of course — but that’s part of the process and the attraction of keeping things informal.

Some of my time outdoors is also spent practising naturism, including swimming and simply being in natural settings without much separation from the environment. A small number of images reflect this more personal side of being outside, approached in the same straightforward, non-theatrical way as the rest of my work here.

Over time, partly through exposure to other photographers on Flickr, I’ve started paying more attention to framing, detail, and the way different subjects sit together as a body of work. The aim is simply to get a little better at noticing what’s there, and to enjoy the looking.
