I think I am more or less done for now although maybe I'll be tempted by a Tokina 11-16mm.
I take pictures and have been doing so for the past half a century (yes, I am that old).
At the end of the 1960s I firmly believed that my career would be in photography. Alas, circumstances have conspired to prevent this. After perhaps some five years of hyperactivity (photographically speaking) I’ve settled into happy snapping mode with bursts of activity during my holidays.
In 2005 I’ve stopped working full time, so I was able to take pictures more often.
The big event came in 2007 when I’ve decided to bite the bullet and sell my analogue Nikon equipment and buy a proper DSLR – the Nikon D80, with a couple of zoom lenses (I did retain my 50mm prime). In March 2009 I've upgraded to a D300. In Aug 2010 I've got a D700 instead.
In 2007, I discovered Flickr. This brought about a sea change and I fell head-long in a virtually obsessive photographic re-birth.
Others have commented more articulately about the incredible talent that the Flickr community nurtures and the inspiration that one can tap into.
Additionally, the real Flickr friendships that I have forged, are invaluable.
Do take a little time to explore (no pun intended) my photo stream beyond the last couple of pictures posted.
Once you got bored with my pix, try to see some of the great captures from others, that have inspired me
And another thing. I am starting to develop a love/hate relationship with GROUPS. I wish I would have a strong enough 'following' not to need some self promotion. Were that the case, I would post to Groups rarely and only on specific issues. Whilst I am happy to contribute, I do get irritated by the "you MUST comment IMMEDIATELY on N (at the power of knots) pictures that are ... or you get BANNED) rules that some Groups specify. My other moan concerns the use of over designed garish pictograms that some Groups use. Some of these are larger than the photo they're attached to.
