Julio has a very distinctive style, a sort of Callahan-esque sense of line and trademark ability to see the beautifully abstract in textural subjects, fused with an obvious attraction to rich gradients in grain and tone a la Irving Penn. Even more fascinating than his competency with the technical aspects of (mostly) film photography, though, is his skill at making his images seem like more than just a picture on a screen. Through his eyes, the picture is transformed into an emotional experience. If that is not what we call "art," what is?
