Latin American art is characterized by its vast range and capacity for hybridization. It emerges from cultures that are fed by a constant flux of external and internal knowledge; from communities that –in the majority- lack a specific, defined identity. Mixture and exposure to new ways of seeing the world characterize Latin American art.

Latin Americans therefore are not isolated from the world; they are exposed to a huge amount of information from the media. Thus, a collective memory is created, which creates a bond –sometimes unconsciously- to the external world.

My work seeks to articulate the relationship between this collective memory and my individual experience; I look for parallels which create a play between reality and fiction and go beyond the conceptual limits of the image, revaluing it and giving it a new meaning.

In a globalized world, where illusion is imposed by the media, new values and stereotypes are created. These broaden and at the same time unify popular identity. I intend, through my artistic composition, to play with new intervals and contrasts, which will mean that my work can be appreciated at different levels in the scale of values and meanings.
