Joe Scukanec is an award-winning and published photographer residing in Frederica, DE. Originally from Flint Michigan, Joe enlisted in the US Navy in 1969 where he developed his passion for photography. During his 20 years of US Naval service Joe traveled throughout the Unites States and around the world experiencing many different cultures and ways of life and recorded those experiences through his photographs. Over 45 years ago, Joe began his career with a simple Kodak Instamatic camera and turning the bathroom into a darkroom. For several years Joe had to put his photography aside to raise a family & work life’s struggles only taking pictures to document family moments. Eventually, and without regrets, he gave most of his photography equipment to his daughter so she could pursue her passion of photography and formal education at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. His photography was now put aside without any idea of when, if ever, he would be able return to his passion. Upon full retirement, Joe decided to return to his photography full time and wake up his passion for creating beautiful images. Armed with his digital cameras, keen eye and creative talent his pictures now come alive on a computer screen (his digital darkroom). His enthusiasm for life and obsession to capture that perfect shot is only enhanced with the beauty of the Delmarva Peninsula. He enjoys photographing Landscapes, Seascapes, Nature and Still-life. He creates unique one-of-a-kind photos by fusing photography with digital art. Before moving to Frederica, Joe was a resident artist for several years at the Art League of Ocean City, Ocean City, MD. He is still an active member of The Art League of Ocean City (ALOC) and Rehoboth Art League.
