In life, time has been my enemy.

In Joyous Garde, time will be my friend...

I am lucky, in that I work as a creative and that I am my own boss. But the things I create in order to make a living are done to meet other people's needs, aspirations and timeframes and so the satisfaction I get from my work is never complete. I always feel compromised . . . a bit like a performing monkey.

So Joyous Garde is a place that I have made for myself where I can be myself and where I can create things for no one's satisfaction but my own. It may be that nobody else will like the things I do there but that is almost irrelevant to me . . . Joyous Garde is a space for my soul to expand and I intend to spend as much time there as I can. Because I know it will be time well spent.

Joyous Garde is not a private place. Others are welcome to join me.

How would I describe my work? I try to achieve either the sublime or the ridiculous and am seldom interested in anything in between. If I can get both into one picture, I am very happy. I believe the best images are always incomplete, with gaps left to be filled in by the viewer's imagination. So mine are always full of holes.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to comment on my work - each one very much appreciated. Despite my comments above, it is always gratifying to think that others might be deriving some pleasure from the things I do.

Many of my art works are on show in my tumblr gallery joyousgarde.tumblr.com/ and a number are available as very limited edition prints (never more than twelve copies), either directly from me or from a small selection of galleries. These are of extremely high quality, produced on a premium grade textured canvas which helps bring out the vibrancy of the colours. Please email or message me if you would like to own one.
