In the summer of 2010, I was inspired to try my hand at photography. I borrowed my wife’s Olympus E-500 and took it down to a stream to snap some photos. Pleased with my work, I began taking every opportunity to shoot various landscapes. My confidence was reinforced by friends showing genuine interest in my shots. In a short time, I became one of the primary photographers for my unit. I covered ceremonies, athletic competitions, and training exercises. Eventually the demands of my unit to cover almost every event under various conditions gave my work a photo-journalistic style. Time and resource constraints pressed me to learn to capture images in-camera rather than editing them for hours behind a computer. I have come to love the adrenaline rush of capturing action shots, particularly in sports, and the tranquility of being alone capturing shots of the world around me.
