I have been into photography and documenting places for most of my life. In general, my photos have gradually shifted from a more narrow focus on "buildings that are old" to shots that attempt to document a greater sense of place in some way. I've become increasingly interested in how the built environment interacts with its broader surroundings as well as how it has been shaped by and continues to reflect broader political, social, cultural, economic, planning, design, and other forces. I try to approach things from more of a historical perspective and rarely photograph contemporary subjects unless they capture my eye or contrast with something else. An exception often applies to planes and trains as well as some new urban development. Some of my favorite American places to photograph have been in North Carolina, Appalachia, the Rust Belt (I use both of those terms loosely and in a positive way), the Deep South, and Texas/the Southwest. I can find a way to enjoy exploring just about anywhere, though. I typically don't photograph people, although I have been told that I capture pets well! It has been hard to find much inspiration in the past year and a half, so most of my posts will likely be older and less frequent for now.
