Jon Gamel is a Los Angeles born artist who began painting abstract objects using oil on oversized stretches of canvas that his mother would provide to him at just ten years old. Gamel developed his talents earning a Bachelor of Science in Art & Design from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He emerged onto the art scene in the 90’s entering the space of digital design in 1999 as the internet began to boom. Since then Gamel has combined his two worlds infusing a seamless blend of creativity and conception.
In early 2000, Gamel was inspired by designers such as David Carson and Daniel Libeskind. He began to use mirrors to reverse paint photo-realistic images on glass. A popular painting form in the 19th century, he innovatively mixes a layer of abstract and photo-realistic elements together. It was at this time that Gamel moved to Manhattan to develop his craft in digital advertising where he experimented with new mediums such as large-scale monochromatic poses reverse painted on glass. Jon continues to perfect his glass reverse painting technique and is motivated by sound. Using an artistic form of synesthesia, he sees colors in sounds, and finds inspiration in the world around him.
Jon Gamel has won numerous awards including a webby in the category of interactive. He is currently working toward his first gallery exhibit and is also an active member of American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). Jon continues his passions by working with his private clientele who commission him for various projects.
