A keen amateur photographer, with a focus on portraiture since I decided for my 40th birthday that I'd like a flash gun, an E-TTL cable and a strobist techniques book (Syl Arena's, as it happens). Combined with the birth of my kids, this gave me the best excuse to practise. My self-learning is supported by all number of fantastic communities (such as this one) and YouTube videos. Now looking out for opportunities to practice outdoors and in studios - not just the technical aspects but the creative/arty side and my people skills to get the best from my subjects.
