Jonathan van Bilsen

Jonathan van Bilsen was born in the Netherlands in the 1950’s and moved to Canada at age eight. It was in the early stages of his career that Mr. van Bilsen developed a particular affinity for international photo-journalism and he has travelled to seventy countries on six continents. In the past 39 years, as a professional photographer, his work has been featured in global publications, national magazines, advertisements, as well as international, national, and regional newspapers.
Along with his photographic talents Jonathan van Bilsen has had four espionage novels published as well four photography books. He has had dozens of articles and photo essays featured in numerous publications. He currently writes two monthly features for human interest magazines. Many of his photographs have been displayed at galleries and exhibitions.
Jonathan serves on the Board of the Canadian Deafblind and Rubella Association, the Board of Junior Achievement of Ontario, is a founding member of the Lend a Hand Foundation, Chairman of the Kent Farndale Gallery, a member of the Port Perry Artists Association, a member of the Scugog Council for the Arts, one of the original members of the Writers’ Circle of Durham Region and founder of the North Durham Photographers’ Association, which has recently signed their 241st. member.
Jonathan’s photography studio is located at 188 Mary Street in Port Perry and is a full portrait studio as well as a large format photography printing facility.
Recently Jonathan won the 2009 Kent Farndale Patron of the Arts award for showing “An exemplary spirit of investment to the arts”, as well as the 2010 People’s Choice awards for being voted the best photography studio in North Durham.
Jonathan and his wife live in a picturesque country setting outside of Toronto, Canada.
