John Scott Lewinski writes screenplays, books, transmedia, interactive games, sketch comedy & magazine articles out of Los Angeles. His feature script, Slabtown, was optioned earlier this year by an independent production company & will shoot in early Spring, 2011. He appeared with Slabtown as a featured screenwriter at the Cinestory Script Session Awards. His feature script, Darwin's Game, won entry into the Telluride Independent Film Festival. Forced Perspective won the 2001 Award from the Wisconsin State Film Commission for “Best Screenplay Set in the State.”

 

As a journalist, he travels the world, writing for more than 30 national magazines. For The Hollywood Reporter, Lewinski toured Cape Town, South Africa & wrote a five article print spread on that country’s film industry. While there, he discovered an effort to set up the country’s first actor’s union – scooping Deadline Hollywood & Variety. In the last year, he visited Rome (to write “an assassin’s history” of The Eternal City), Las Vegas (to tackle the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show for multiple outlets) & New Orleans (to cover the 2011 Toyota Bassmasters Classic). Previously, he was AOL’s lead correspondent at San Diego’s 2009 Comic-Con.

 

His other publications include Esquire.com, Popular Mechanics, Askmen.com, Wired Magazine, Popular Science, ABC News Online, Writer's Digest, Mental Floss & Amazing Stories. Along the way, he enjoyed interviewing the likes of William Shatner, Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson, Jeff Bridges, Jimmie Johnson, James Cameron, Marc Ecko, Guillermo del Toro & others.

 

He maintains his own entertainment review website, SwagWars.com, where he reviews pop culture trends, movies, television shows, DVDs, video games, toys & collectibles.

 

Lewinski enjoyed serving as a guest lecturer at the University of Notre Dame & Marquette University. As an author, his book, Alone in a Room: Secrets of Professional Screenwriters, is now available at bookstores everywhere. And, his popular book, Screenwriter's Guide to Agents & Managers from Allworth Press, hit shelves in 2002. He also cowrote the inspiring 2009 non-fiction sports title, A Saint in the City from Tate Publishing.

 

Lewinski’s interactive writing includes contributions to the million selling CD-ROM games LucasArts' Star Wars: Demolition, Broderbund's Riven, The Sequel to Myst, Command & Conquer II - Tiberian Sun & Command & Conquer - Red Alert. His work on the Command & Conquer franchise includes terms & concepts that remain in the game series more than a decade later.

 

Lewinski started out as a writer's assistant for the Black Entertainment Television comedy series, Comicview. He worked his way up to staff writer & wrote several sketches for the Comicview Players. Putting his sketch comedy experience to work, Lewinski writes & directs short comedy films as the creator of DayWithoutDumplings.com. On the stage, Lewinski wrote & directed sketch comedy for the Sacred Fools Theater, Serial Killers, Acme Comedy Theater in Los Angeles & the 24-hour theatre event, Day Players.

 

He wrote, directed & edited the award-winning short audio play, Emergence. Lewinski also produced & edited teaser promos as part of a successful viral video campaign for the sci-fi/horror series, Alive. Most recently, Lewinski contributed to transmedia promotional campaigns for Coca Cola Europe & Rolex.

 

He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles & a B.A. in Journalism from Marquette University. He completed his study of English Literature at Exeter College, University of Oxford, UK.
