THE CAMERA IS JUST THE FIRST STEP ...

These days I consider myself more a "photo illustrator" than a true photographer. This is borrowing a term I learned when I worked at a newspaper -- the concept of the "photo illustration," being a photograph which was digitally manipulated beyond what would be considered traditional retouching. My most recent work exemplifies this ethos best, with color separation, major Photoshop-work for enhancement, and in some cases alteration to the point where the photograph is considerably "beyond reality." I'm even (finally) beginning to experiment with truly unique creations -- they started life as photographs, but end up ... Not.

I tend to upload more than I perhaps should, but that's because Flickr was (for a long time) my photo archive. Now I tend to only upload what I consider to be my winners.

If you want to use one of my photos for any purpose, I ask that you please contact me first. None of them are Creative Commons; all are fully copyrighted. Flickr Mail me and we'll work something out if possible. (I'm not unreasonable! I promise!)

(Note that the above does not count if you wish to use something as your personal desktop wallpaper. However, you may not redistribute them under any circumstances. Most of my recent images which are landscape-oriented are available in either a 1280- or 1650-pixel wide version, which should suffice for most desktop screens.)
